I’m really proud of Finding Hogwarts. Sometimes I just want to watch it by myself just as a reminder that - trials and tribulations aside - I had an idea, I did it, and I made something awesome. That’s all that really matters to me.
On the End of PotterCast
I suspect no one here is really surprised. We haven’t done an episode in a year. Our episode 250 got chomped by the end of AVPSY, and we meant to record it in a better way… and then a better way… and then a better way after that… and then we made a date to record… and another… and another… and life kept moving in, shoving its shoulders between our best intentions, and there are two LeakyCons this year, and everyone has jobs, and PotterCast has been the redheaded stepchild that has gotten put by the wayside. That has felt so unfair to PotterCast and to everyone who has listened to it for eight - EIGHT - years.
What people I think don’t realize is that it takes an enormous amount of effort to schedule three people for a weekly show, create content, edit that show into something good. Even if it were a paying gig, it would be a lot to ask people to put aside those hours on a weeknight, exhausted from a full day of work, and be chipper and worth listening to. That’s not a complaint: it was absolutely a labor of love and I wouldn’t take back a second of it. But it was exhausting.
When we started a podcast, I was sure it was not something I was made to do. I felt like such a jerk sitting there in my old roommate’s living room saying things that I was sure no one would care to hear. I suspect it’s how a lot of people these days feel about vlogging, once they become heavily subscribed. But I learned so much: my ability to speak publicly grew by leaps and bounds; I had to force myself to listen to my voice, which is never easy but always instructive; I learned about hosting and more about conducting interviews and making entertainment for people. Most importantly, I made friends and colleagues that will be with me forever.
If you take a look at the about page for Leaky Cauldron, LeakyNews and LeakyCon, most of those people came through us through the PotterCast transcription elf service. It sounds like something that we advertised for in a newspaper! Seriously: Stephanie, co-director on LeakyCon was a transcription elf. Andy, who codes all the Web sites? Transcription elf. Josh, who is a big part of LC and LN, transcription elf. PotterCast was a vital part of how we identified good people who worked hard for fun, and that is the only way anything Leaky has been able to operate at all. It has been the engine for a lot of the creativity that has been responsible for everything that has come since.
We’ll do all the thank yous, and all the sadness later. For now I just want to say that getting to travel the US doing live shows; play tours with Harry and the Potters, The Whomping Willows, the Remus Lupins and more; doing conferences and other live events; it has been an unexpected and even majestic part of my life that I will never forget.
Our next show will be a wrapup and celebration, and we will put a date on our last show sometime after that. Thanks for reading, and for listening all this time. :)
Frankie and Johnny… I love you two. A lot.
I had the most unusual, crazy, hilarious, fun and life changing post-high school experience ever thanks to PotterCast. I spend a lot of time talking about how my life would be different if it weren’t for Harry Potter, but honestly touring with PotterCast is what gave me the best summers of my life. I’m so blessed to have been able to see the country, meet so many amazing people and spend my time celebrating Harry Potter in such a unique way with people who were so warm and welcoming to me. <3

Hey! Didn’t really know how to put this out there but I’m currently taking requests for drawings if you’d like to buy from me. I’ll be mailing out the original 8 x 11 piece. Name it and I’ll do it.
It’s all done through Google Checkout so 100% legit.
If you don’t have money/think I’m crazy/don’t like my stuff, please ignore this post.
THANKS, GUYS.
That moment when President Obama was the first to tell John Green’s baby to not forget to be awesome.. and the look on John’s face after.. LOL
